WED November 28
Today was a half-day for students. We took the second half of our trig test on chapter 5. Tomorrow we start chapter 6. Friday there will be a quiz on their reading assignment. Algebra 1 will continue in chapter 6.
Alg/Trig Syllabus
ADVANCED ALGEBRA/TRIG SYLLABUS
BUCHANAN P43
This course will continue to review and expand upon certain algebraic concepts. This semester will investigate: Linear relations and functions, systems of equations, matrices, the nature of graphs, polynomial and rational functions and trigonometry. Chap. 1-6 will be covered.
Advanced Algebra/Trig is essential to future math endeavors if you seek a degree in a math or science related field or plan to attend an academically demanding school.
Text: Advanced Mathematical Concepts, Glencoe-McGraw Hill, $55
Evaluation: During the semester you will have a minimum of 7 major tests. You will be given random quizzes along with homework practically every day. At the end of the semester there will be a comprehensive test. Homework is expected to be finished but in the event there is a problem you cannot work, write it down and leave room for the solution. No excuses. Classwork consists of taking all notes from the board along with working on assignments when ample time is given in class. Homework and class work notes will be checked each day. You must show your work on all assignments to receive credit. All quizzes will be averaged to create a major test grade. Each student begins with a 100 for hw/cw and 4 points are subtracted for each zero and this will constitute another test grade. The final will count 15%. The remaining test grades will be averaged in to make the final grade.
A good notebook is vital to your education and could be checked at any time for a quiz grade. Keep your notebook organized with hw and tests and quizzes together for the same chapter.
A minimum of 2 quiz grades will cover the book “October Sky” along with a few questions on tests. Extra credit will be through supplemental readings of other books chosen by the teacher.
Makeups: If you are absent, make sure you know what you missed. You have the same number of days out to make up the test or quiz or homework. This is your responsibility. If you only miss the day before a test, you will take it, so be ready. Take your book home each day.
Extra help: I am here most mornings at 8am and till 4 in the afternoon. Students expecting extra help need to take all notes and also make honest attempts at homework. If you find that you cannot keep up with the work load in this class, or any other, consider speaking to a counselor about time-management or perhaps cutting back on extracurricular activities.
Behavior: You are expected to be on time. Allow others a pleasant atmosphere for learning. The student handbook deals with behavior problems, read it.
Recovery: FULTON COUNTY RECOVERY POLICY:
(High School version)
Provision for Improving Grades
1. Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low
or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required
to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated
a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including
attendance.
Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery
opportunities. Teachers are expected to establish a reasonable
time period for recovery work to be completed during the
semester. All recovery work must be directly related to course
objectives and must be completed ten school days prior to the
end of the semester.
2. Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating
circumstances may improve their grades.
CHATTAHOOCHEE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDELINES:
Recovery is available to students with a cumulative grade below 74% after a minimum of two (2) major grades. The maximum grade a student can earn for a recovery activity is 70%. There will be only one recovery opportunity per failed major assignment or test. The individual teacher will determine the means of recovery. THE STUDENT MUST INITIATE THE PROCESS WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS OF NOTIFICATION OF A FAILING GRADE ON A MAJOR ASSIGNMENT/TEST. Two weeks from notification of failing is end of recovery period.
Do not wait until the end of the semester to try and improve your grade.
This class will move fast at times; keep up and be prepared for tests.
Do all work in pencil.
There is no substitute for good study habits.
Failure to prepare on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
Make sure you are aware of Internet sites supplementing the textbook.

Use your agenda for hall pass necessities.
The teachers in the math department will update student grades every two weeks in Integrade. Quizzes and tests will be entered when they are announced. Please be aware that papers and/or projects take time to grade. Dates will occasionally change. Most teachers will not list every assignment. Each teacher will have their own was to enter homework and assignments so that parents may keep track of their child’s progress.
